This collection consists of the papers of the Van Kleeck family of Poughkeepsie, New York. Included in these papers are wills, letters, commissions, and a drawing in pen and ink of the Van Kleeck house at Poughkeepsie. These papers relate primarily to Lawrence L. Van Kleeck. They concern his career in customs and dismissal from office of Military Storekeeper at Brooklyn by President Tyler. Also included in the collection are : letters and New York State militia papers of Leonard G. Van Kleeck, the will of Baltus Van Kleeck, and a letter in Dutch from Elizabeth Richaert to her brother Henry Van Rensselaer.

Baltus Van Kleeck of Poughkeepsie, New York was a representative from Dutchess County, New York in the 16th and part of the 17th Colonial Assemblies. Lawrence L. Van Kleeck was born on May 3, 1782. He married Alida Van Rensselaer, and died on April 2, 1853. Lawrence Van Kleeck served as High Sheriff of Albany County, Clerk of the City and County of Albany and Collector of Internal Revenue.
